Isabel Smith is a Los Angeles based  jazz vocalist, pianist in Los Angeles with a love for swing and the Great American Songbook.

Her repertoire ranges from swinging standards and bossa nova to French jazz, with a light and playful approach. 

​Varnish Music Director Marc Gasway described her this way: “There’s a lot of magic in Isabel Smith’s voice. She has a lithe, rounded tone... She thinks like an instrumentalist because she is one.”

Isabel has performed at notable venues throughout Los Angeles, including the Cicada Club, Vitello’s Jazz Club, The Peninsula Beverly Hills, The Culver Hotel, The California Club, Pendry West Hollywood, Le Petit Paris, Le Grand Restaurant, Pour Vous, Grand Central Market, and South Coast Botanic Garden. Her band has also held residencies at Le Grand Restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles and Le Petit Paris.​

She grew up playing violin and piano before finding her way to singing, and later studied music at UC Berkeley. In 2016, she started Strada Swing, named after the little café outside Berkeley’s music building, which was originally inspired by her love of French Gypsy jazz.

Isabel is also a dedicated music educator. For the past 8 years, she has directed the choirs for Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA). Her choirs have performed at the Hollywood Bowl and Walt Disney Concert Hall, including alongside artists such as Natalia Lafourcade, Coldplay, and Gustavo Dudamel.

 

She is a Suzuki-trained violin teacher and also works with Jazz Empowers, bringing jazz education to young musicians in schools throughout Los Angeles.
